Although Family Voices activities have barely begun on this beautiful island, there are now 250 Family Voices members, a newsletter and display, and good relationships with the Parent Training and Information Center/PTI, the Title V/CSHCN program, Protection and Advocacy, the local child advocacy organization, the Academy of Pediatrics, and local officials. Family Voices materials are translated into Spanish as a matter of course. Families in Puerto Rico especially struggle with adequate coverage for pediatric specialty care, and find that access to pediatric services is difficult because of long waiting lists. For example, sometimes children must wait from six months to a year to see a geneticist. Puerto Rico recently hosted a meeting of State Coordinators from Region 2.
